As many of you know, I have a “year in the life” style photoblog over at The Story of Today . The goal is to capture our story by taking photos every week, ideally every day, of our every day life… all the little bits and pieces that make up the year. Although I have done reasonably well with the photography – this is the easy part for me – I am noticeably behind on the uploading.
It’s great having a larger family and a ton of hobbies, but sometimes there’s not enough hours in the day to get to everything. So, my apologies to anyone who has been checking back to see the same old photo for the last few weeks (sorry Nana!) and I’m vowing to catch it up and not get so far behind again.

I didn’t find today as tough as the previous few days. It was predominantly upper body, and I’m sure I’ll be feeling those tricep extensions later, but overall it was pretty manageable. I did the Day 7 workout in about 25 minutes and followed it up with 5 minutes each of basketball, tennis and boxing. Not quite 45 minutes, but Oliver woke up from his nap so I was done!
I have been trying to exercise a little portion control, but went way off today. I’m so hungry, but I have to try to fill up on lighter fare. Today was not a great day, diet wise :(

Day 6 is a rest day, and boy do I need it! I’m proud of myself for working out five days in a row, but I really need the break today. I cheated and weighed myself early and it seems despite eating an entire pizza and two glasses of wine this week-end, I managed to lose a little bit of weight. Yay! I’ve been watching what I eat all week, but I’m not giving up Friday pizza night ;)
My oldest two boys were playing the sports games again this week-end; I’m surprised how much they are enjoying it. The baseball in particular is a big hit, and it’s great that there is multiplayer.
The first week is almost done, and it’s been hard work yet enjoyable. I’ll enjoy my day of rest, but am looking forward to getting back to it tomorrow!

You know, I like to think I’m pretty decent shape for someone who doesn’t work out regularly. I walk every day and carry around babies and heavy toddlers for a living. Yesterday’s EA Sports Active workout pushed me a bit, but other than the jumps it wasn’t too tough. And then there’s today’s workout… WOW. I did two sets of lunge jumps (forward lunge, jump, switch legs, land in opposite side forward jump) that I thought were going to kill me. The program is really pushing me, and I’m feeling it. But after only five days, I swear I can see results. It might be all in my head (or in the aches through all my major muscle groups), but I feel like I’m in better shape already.
I’ve noticed there is a lot of activity on twitter, all kinds of people are microblogging their experience with the 30 Day Challenge. If you want to follow along, the “official” hashtag is
#EASactive.

The workout for Day 4 dials up the intensity and adds some new exercises. Again, it was a mix of upper and lower body exercises, with some new and more challenging ones added to the routine. The side jumps (start in a squat, jump sideways and land in a squat) were killer hard, and I really struggled to finish the set. I was feeling sore but victorious that I had somehow managed to complete the whole set, but that feeling quickly disappeared a few exercises later when it threw a second set at me. Uhg…

I’m glad I’m not the only one have difficulty getting the controller to register during certain exercises. The bicep curls and bent rows have been giving me some difficulty, I find you have to move the controllers quite precisely and hold it really still at the beginning and the end of the rep, or the software doesn’t recognize it. The article mentions the possibility of using the upcoming Wii Motion Plus which would likely be a big improvement, but personally I’m not sure I want to invest in any more hardware for the Wii. Other than EA Sports Active, all our family really plays is Mario Kart and Wii Fit. I would have preferred a two Wiimote control scheme, which would allow me to leave the nunchuk in the sleeve for the duration of the workout.
