This weekend I had some great “me time”. The boys were all gone to a family function, leaving me with just little Penelope for two days. She is just about the most easy going little two year old you’ll ever meet, and we had a great together. I took her to the little park down the street with camera in tow – and a few Poppy’s Boutique accessories, just for fun – and had a great time running around with her and taking hundreds of photos. Spending time with my girl and my camera are two of my favourite things, it was fabulous. After lunch, she randomly put herself for a nap (how great is that?!) freeing me up to edit some of my favourites. I get so much joy from editing my photos, I really need to make time to do it more often. There are a few gems, and you’ll probably even see some of them on the store website in the future. Check out my favourites in the slideshow below or view them on my Flickr page.
If you’re in the Ottawa area, consider bringing your family to the Sandy Hill Spring Fair on Saturday, June 4th. It’s organized by Bettye Hyde Co-operative Nursery School and is a real grassroots style community fair. There will be classic games like an egg-and-spoon race and three-legged races, face painting, mendhi and more. There also will be family entertainment throughout the day provided by community artists such as:
- children’s music by Winchester Warm
- live drumming
- National Capital School of Dance Performers
- Gabe’s Magic Show
- Lets Talk Science Chemistry Show and much more!
Local artists and crafters will be selling their creations; I’ll be there with my hair accessories, so stop by and see me! (I’ll even have a special sale for you).
Stay for lunch; there will be also be coffee provided by TAN Coffee, a bake sale and a BBQ (including vegetarian options).
For all the information check out their Facebook event; hope to see you there!
February 18th to 25th is Kindess Week in Ottawa. Now in it’s fourth year, Kindness Week is about creating the community we want by making a conscious choice to be kind in Ottawa.
Kindess is a value that is particularly important to our family every week, and one that I make a conscious effort to instill in my children. This week, we’re talking specifically about choosing to be kind and the impact that can have on our community. We’ve been through a very serious ordeal with bullying over the last few years, and there has been lots of talk about “anti bullying” at home and at school so we’re particularly touched by the potential impact of kindness week. Imagine the possibilities if our community made a choice not just to “not bully” but to be kind to one another. I know my boys and I are in love with this concept and the potential impact. (more…)
Happy Friday! Our tree is decorated, our stockings are hung, Christmas music is playing and I’m working on a few little holiday gifts for some of my favourite little people. Christmas spirit has officially hit our house!
Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope you’re feeling a touch of the magic going around at this time of year. I love all the lights and decorations, and the time off to spend with family and friends. Our house is filled with smiles and positive energy, I love it!
In other news, I’ve taken the leap and created a Facebook page for my blog. Time to stop spamming my family and friends with my blog feed, make it easier for more people to read my posts and hopefully start some conversations with you. It was time to do it, but it’s kind of like throwing your first big party — OMG what if no one comes?? That brand new page with only one ‘Like” (um, that’d be me) looks pretty scary. So, to encourage all of you to join my little community I’m having a giveaway. Next Friday, December 17th I’ll be holding a random draw for this adorable boutique Newsboy Hat with removable Crochet Flower clip from Poppy’s Boutique. Simply Like Momicon on Facebook to enter. One winner will be chosen at random from all community members. Makes a sweet addition to holiday outfits or a great gift for the little girl on your shopping list!
Wishing all of you a wonderful week-end. Don’t spend it all shopping and doing errands; take a bit of time to enjoy the magic and joy that’s spreading this season!
Yesterday was our “lazy day” of holidays, a day to lounge around in our pyjamas and hang out around the house on no particular schedule. Since I’m usually up and ready by 7, this is an enormous indulgence. I took the opportunity to pull out my mom’s sewing machine that I have on long term loan (and haven’t touched) and work on some new items for Poppy’s. This is a prototype of the new mitten clips I will be doing for fall and winter, and I have to say I think they turned out great.
And I finally got around to making the “Kitty” clips I’ve been wanting to do. I have a bunch of ribbon from a new supplier, and it is so thick and nice to work with, I just love it.
It was so nice to have a day to not-rush everyone to get dressed and ready to go, we so rarely have a day like that… I tend to spend any time off work trying to do as much housework and kidstuff as possible. It was good to take one day (out of the year? yikes) to decompress and do some fun stuff. Even if my definition of “fun” is a sewing machine, pyjama pants and lots of coffee :)
Don’t forget to enter Poppy’s Boutique June giveaway on Facebook! Simply ‘Like’ the photo of our new petite Baby Snappies to enter. A random winner will be drawn at the end of the month, and will receive a set of clips from our new (soon-to-be-released) Ladybug Picnic collection. They’re super cute, you’re going to love them!
